【Botanical Origin】
The dried mature seeds of Ginkgo biloba L. (Ginkgoaceae) with the fleshy outer seed coat removed.
【Characteristics】
The dried seeds are oval, slightly flattened, with a long diameter of 1.5~2.5㎝ and a short diameter of 1~1.5㎝. The outer shell (seed coat) is white or grayish-white, smooth, and hard, with 2 ridges winding around the edge. The top is gradually pointed, and the base has a round dot-shaped seed stalk scar. Inside the shell is a long and flattened oval kernel. When peeled, one end has a light brown film. The kernel is light yellow or yellow-green, powdery, with a space in the center. It has a slight odor, and a sweet, slightly bitter and astringent taste.
