【Origin】
The dried heartwood of Santalum Santalum album L. of the Santalaceae family.
【Properties】
This product comes in sections or pieces of wood of varying lengths, with a yellow-brown or light yellow-orange surface. It is dense, firm, and heavy, but easily split. It has a strong and distinctive fragrance that is long-lasting, and a slightly bitter taste.
The prepared slices are curled or broken shavings, about 4 cm long, 1 cm wide, and 0.5 to 1 mm thick; the surface is gray-yellow, relatively rough, with fine shaving marks.

“Zunsheng Bajian” says: “Yellow sandalwood with yellow flesh is the best.” “Lianglie Jianbie” says: “After splitting, the best is the one that is yellow-brown with oily essence and a strong fragrance.”
The best is heavy and firm, with a dense, heavy, smooth, and delicate texture, oily traces on the cross-section, a clear and fragrant aroma, and a rich fragrance. When burned, the fragrance is elegant and rich, and the smoke can form a line. A fake product has no sandalwood aroma when burned.
