【Botanical Origin】

Dried seed kernel of the Walnut tree, Juglans regia L., of the Juglandaceae family.

【Characteristics】

Mostly broken into irregular pieces; whole ones are nearly spherical, composed of two cotyledons, wrinkled with many grooves, and uneven. Covered with a brownish-yellow thin film-like seed coat. The seed coat can be peeled off to reveal a yellowish-white color. Brittle in texture, the cotyledons are rich in oil. The odor is weak, the cotyledons taste bland and oily, and the seed coat tastes astringent.
