The rhizome of Imperata cylindrical (L.) Beaur. var. major (Nees) Hubb. of the Gramineae family.
n 【Characteristics】n
The rhizome is slender and cylindrical, sometimes branched, usually 30~60㎝ long, about 1.5㎜ in diameter, milky white or yellowish-white on the surface, with longitudinal wrinkles of varying depths, slightly raised nodes, often covered with brownish scaly leaf sheaths at the nodes, and cylindrical fine roots and root scars on the nodes. The internode is about 3㎝. It is light and tough, not easy to break, and the cross-section is fibrous. It has a slight odor and a slightly sweet taste.nnThe prepared slices are small sections of the Bai Mao Gen (White Imperata Rhizome) rhizome, 2~3㎝ long; the outer skin is yellowish-white, with irregular edges, the cortex is yellowish-white, and the central cylinder is light yellow and large, easily separated from the cortex. Charred Mao Gen: It is black-brown.
