【Botanical Origin】n

The tuberous root of Semiaquilegia adoxoides (D C.) Mak., family Ranunculaceae.

【Characteristics】n

Most of the dried tuberous roots are oval, spindle-shaped, or cylindrical and twisted, 1-3cm long and 0.5-1cm wide. The outer surface is dark brown and rough, with irregular longitudinal grooves and transverse lines. The top of the tuberous root often has residual petioles, covered with several layers of yellowish-brown sheath-like scales, and has fibrous roots or fibrous root scars. The texture is relatively brittle, the fracture surface is relatively flat, the cortex is off-white, and the xylem is yellow. It has a faint odor and a taste that is initially sweet and then astringent.
