【Formula Rationale】

“New Interpretations of Treatment for Miscellaneous Diseases”: This formula primarily uses Tian Ma, Gou Teng, and raw Shi Jue Ming to calm the Liver, extinguish wind, and subdue rebellious Qi. It is supplemented with Zhi Zi and Huang Qin to clear and subdue, Niu Xi to invigorate blood, and Sang Ji Sheng and Du Zhong to nourish the Liver and Kidneys, thereby nurturing the Kidneys to calm the Liver’s rebellion. It also includes Ye Jiao Teng and Zhu Fu Ling to calm the spirit and induce sleep, thereby alleviating insomnia. Therefore, it is an excellent remedy for Liver-related headaches and dizziness. In terms of modern hypertension headaches, studies have shown that Huang Qin, Du Zhong, Yi Mu Cao, Sang Ji Sheng, and other ingredients in this formula all have blood pressure-lowering effects, thus possessing the ability to calm the spirit, lower blood pressure, and alleviate pain.

 【Modifications】

(1) For phlegm, add Bei Mu and Dan Xing to clear heat and resolve phlegm. (2) For numbness in hands and feet, add Xi Xian Cao and Di Long to unblock channels and invigorate collaterals. (3) For severe Liver and Kidney Yin deficiency, add Shu Di and Shan Zhu Yu to nourish the Liver and Kidneys. (4) For blurred vision, add Chong Wei Zi and Cao Jue Ming to nourish the Liver and improve vision. (5) If there is no dizziness, red eyes, or wiry and rapid pulse, remove Zhi Zi and Huang Qin. (6) For severe cases, Jue Ming can be replaced with Ling Yang Jiao for stronger effects; for advanced cases of arteriosclerosis, appropriate amounts of Huai Hua and Hai Zao can be added.

 【Pharmacology】

Primarily lowers blood pressure, regulates the central nervous system, inhibits platelet aggregation, and suppresses the production of lipid peroxides.
