【Formulation Rationale】

According to ‘Formulas of Traditional Chinese Medicine’: This formula primarily treats damp-warmth or epidemic damp-heat pathogens lingering in the Qi level, presenting with significant dampness and heat. Dampness and heat steaming together lead to fever, fatigue, and sore limbs; dampness obstructing clear Yang and impeding Qi movement causes chest tightness, abdominal distension, and possibly even vomiting and diarrhea; upward accumulation of heat-toxin results in swollen and painful throat and jaw; heat being suppressed by dampness, stagnating internally and unable to vent, leads to jaundice; scanty dark urine and a yellow, greasy tongue coating are all signs of damp-heat accumulation internally. The treatment principle is to promote urination to resolve dampness, transform turbidity, clear heat, and resolve toxicity. Therefore, the formula heavily utilizes Talcum, Artemisia capillaris, and Scutellaria. Among them, Talcum clears damp-heat and relieves summer-heat; Artemisia capillaris clears heat, promotes urination to resolve dampness, and reduces jaundice; Scutellaria clears heat, resolves toxicity, and dries dampness. The remaining herbs, Calamus, White Cardamom, Agastache, and Peppermint, aromatically transform turbidity, promote Qi circulation, and invigorate the spleen; Blackberry Lily Rhizome and Fritillaria descend Lung Qi and benefit the throat; Akebia Stem assists Talcum and Artemisia capillaris in clearing damp-heat and promoting urination; Forsythia assists Scutellaria in clearing heat and resolving toxicity. The combination of these herbs focuses on clearing, resolving, and leaching dampness, while also using aromatic properties to promote Qi circulation, regulate the lungs, and benefit the throat. In this way, damp pathogens are resolved through urination, toxic heat is cleared, the spleen is invigorated, and the lungs are purged. Promoting Qi circulation and transforming turbidity makes this formula most suitable for treating damp-warmth or epidemic diseases with severe dampness and heat. All conditions such as damp-warmth, summer-heat complicated by dampness, epidemic diseases, and modern medical conditions like typhoid fever, icteric viral hepatitis, cholecystitis, acute gastroenteritis, etc., which are characterized by severe dampness and heat, can be treated by this formula with modifications.

 【Functions】

Transforms turbidity and resolves dampness, clears heat and resolves toxicity.

 【Indications】

Early stage of damp-warmth with pathogens in the Qi level, severe dampness and heat, presenting with symptoms such as fever and fatigue, chest tightness, abdominal distension, sore limbs, swollen throat, absence of sweat with irritability, or sweating without fever reduction, jaundice, swollen jaw/submandibular region, thirst, scanty dark urine or turbid urination. Scanty dark urine with constipation, or un畅 diarrhea with foul-smelling hot stool, or swollen throat and jaw, yellow greasy tongue coating, or pale white, or thick greasy tongue coating.

 【Modern Medical Applications】

Infectious hepatitis, biliary tract infection, upper respiratory tract infection, acute tonsillitis, mumps, acute gastroenteritis, urinary tract infections, and other diseases.
