【Prescription Analysis】

“Yifang”: This formula involves the Yangming channels of the hand and foot. The herbs are all effective against worms. While they can be used individually, combining them into a pill ensures the complete eradication of parasites. “Yilin Zuanyao”: This formula combines various anthelmintic herbs. It is considered potent, but highly effective in expelling worms, not only roundworms. Lysimachia japonica can treat pinworms in the lower body and parasitic skin conditions. Melia azedarach bark can treat various vaginal worms. Rhus chinensis gall can treat worms in the mouth, teeth, and nostrils. Lead powder is effective against all types of worms. Alum treats skin sores and scabies. Areca catechu seed and Quisqualis indica seed are specifically for treating intestinal worms. This formula has been used as a powder to treat nasal sores, and as an ointment with sesame oil for sores and scabies, with good results.

 【Functions】

Expels and kills intestinal parasites, and eliminates accumulations.

 【Indications】

Common in children’s diseases involving various parasites, abdominal pain due to parasitic accumulation, swollen masses that appear and disappear, incessant pain, mental distress, vomiting of saliva, emaciation of limbs, sallow or greenish complexion, alternating chills and fever, listlessness, and other symptoms.

 【Applications】

Mainly used for parasitic infections such as roundworms, pinworms, and tapeworms.

 【Mnemonic】

Choose good guests Hu Fan (楝鶴檳胡礬 – Melia, Lysimachia, Areca, Lead, Alum).

 【Modifications】

(1) Add Rhus chinensis gall and Quisqualis indica seed to this formula, also known as Huachong Wan “Yifang Jijie”, which has a stronger anthelmintic effect than the original formula. (2) For severe abdominal pain due to intestinal worms, add Aurantii Fructus Immaturus and Aucklandia Lappa Root to regulate qi and relieve pain. (3) For cases with accompanying heat, add Coptis Chinensis Rhizome or Phellodendron Chinense Bark to clear heat. (4) For intestinal obstruction due to roundworms, add Magnolia Officinalis Bark, Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, Aucklandia Lappa Root, and Persicaria maculosa to regulate qi, expel worms, and promote bowel movement.

 【Pharmacology】

It has anthelmintic and expelling effects on various parasites, including roundworms, pinworms, tapeworms, and Clonorchis sinensis.
