[Analysis of the Formula]
Fang Ji Xue Tang: Cyperus Rotundus scatters liver qi and relieves depression, moves qi, and stops pain. Washing with vinegar enhances its action of entering the liver to regulate qi and relieve pain, making it the principal herb in the formula. Galangal is acrid and greatly warm, warming the middle and stomach, dispelling cold, and stopping pain. Washing with wine enhances its action of dispelling cold, making it the deputy herb in the formula.

[Indications]
Lateral pain, epigastric pain with acid regurgitation, chest and abdominal distention, abdominal pain, epigastric pain, and chest tightness due to liver qi stagnation and cold coagulation in the stomach.
[Syndromes]
Chronic gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, chronic hepatitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, and other diseases characterized by qi stagnation and cold coagulation, and blood stasis obstructing the collaterals, leading to pain.

[Modifications]
(1) If qi stagnation is more prominent, increase the dose of Cyperus Rotundus or add Costus Root, 砂仁/’>Amomum Villosum to enhance the action of regulating qi and stopping pain. (2) For menstrual pain, add Angelica Sinensis and Sichuan Lovage Rhizome to harmonize blood, regulate menstruation, and stop pain. (3) If cold coagulation is severe, increase the dose of Galangal or add Dried Ginger, Evodia Rutaecarpa to strengthen the action of warming the middle and dispelling cold.
