【Prescription Analysis】

“Medical Formulas”: This formula contains herbs for the Stomach and Liver meridians. (1) Wu He-gao stated: Herbs like Jiāo and Fáng can expel external wind, but they cannot treat internal wind. Herbs like Xīng and Xià can treat damp phlegm, but not phlegm due to wind deficiency. (2) The three herbs treat internal wind and heat due to deficiency, and when taken with wine, they can enter the meridians and correct facial paralysis. (3) He also stated: Radix Aconiti (prepared) is pungent and can dispel wind. (4) Silkworm and Scorpion: Their salty nature can soften phlegm. (5) Their pungent and hot nature can promote wind movement, and the toxicity of silkworm and scorpion can break up stagnation. (6) Some herbs use heat to attack heat, and toxicity to attack toxicity, as Da Yi said, “like attracts like,” and the Inner Canon said, “diminish by its category.” “Commentary on Formulas” stated: Scutellaria lateriflora, being green and able to move, specifically enters the Liver meridian. Wind energy corresponds to the Liver, making it the primary herb for searching out wind. Radix Aconiti (prepared) is pungent and disperses, capable of treating wind in the head and face. Bombyx Batryticatus is clear and hollow, capable of resolving wind in the collateral vessels. These three are all specialized herbs for treating wind. Taking them with wine helps them travel through the meridians.
