【Naming】
Mother Clove
【Common Usage Level】
E
【Botanical Origin】
The dried fruit of the Myrtaceae family Clove tree, Eugenia caryophyllata Thunb.
【Characteristics】
Ovoid in shape, about 2-3 cm long and 0.6-1 cm in diameter. The outer surface is brown, rough, and has many fine wrinkles, with 4 split sepals at the upper end. The texture is firm and brittle, and it often splits longitudinally into two halves when broken, containing a small number of seeds (because the seeds are immature, they are mostly shriveled and difficult to observe). The aroma is slightly fragrant, and the taste is pungent and spicy.
【Identification】
Mother Clove contains only about 1/7 of the volatile oil found in male clove, and its quality is inferior to male clove.
