【Origin】
It is the dried secretion of the honeybee insect Apis mellifera L. It is mostly collected from beehives in summer and impurities are removed.
【Characteristics】
It is in the form of clumps or irregular fragments, mostly brownish yellow, yellowish brown, or grayish brown in color, and has a luster. It becomes hard and brittle below 20°C, soft and pliable when heated above 30°C, and has strong adhesion. It has an aromatic odor, a bitter taste, and a spicy sensation. It contains 50-60% resin, 30% beeswax, and 10% volatile oil, etc.
【Identification】
The best quality is brownish yellow in color, pure, relatively soft, has a spicy sensation, and is fragrant.
