Rhizome of Curculigo orchioides Gaertn. of the Amaryllidaceae family.
【Character】
The rhizome is cylindrical, slightly curved, flat at both ends, 3-10 cm long, and 3-8 mm in diameter. The surface is brownish-brown, rough, wrinkled, and has fine, non-continuous transverse lines. The apex of the rhizome is thinner, and the surface has obvious longitudinal wrinkles. The rhizome is firm and brittle, easily broken, with a flat, yellowish-white fracture surface showing a ring (endodermis). It is solid, powdery, and has fibrous strands (vascular bundles). It has a slightly spicy aroma and a slightly bitter, pungent taste. Wine-processed Xian Mao: The color darkens.
