【Formula Explanation】

From *Shan Bu* (Supplement and Correction): All four ingredients are cold and cooling in nature. By using them fresh and pounding them into pills, their inherent “water qi” is fully preserved, avoiding decoction by fire, thus further removing them from the influence of fire (heat). Fresh Rehmannia, rich and moist, clears heat from the Heart and Kidneys, and opens the source of blood vessels. Platycladus Leaf, associated with the West (Metal element, Lungs), clears heat from the Lung-Metal and regulates the qi of *Ying* (nutritive qi) and *Wei* (defensive qi). Aromatic Mugwort Leaf enters the Spleen and Stomach, exerting the power to dispel stasis and generate new tissue. Lotus Leaf, following the Zhen trigram (associated with the East, Wood element, Liver), enters the Liver system to harmonize its function of storing and containing blood. Once the fire of the five emotions is cleared, and the Yin of the five Zang organs is stabilized, then Yin and Yang are balanced, and blood returns to its channels.

From *Shan Bu*: For exuberant Yang and deficient Yin, with blood heat causing reckless movement of blood, resulting in hematemesis or epistaxis.
