【Formula Explanation】

Handian states: The Danggui, Baishao, Chuanxiong, and Dihuang in this formula constitute Siwu Tang (Four-Ingredient Decoction), which nourishes blood and promotes blood circulation. Fangfeng and Jingjie expel wind, resolve carbuncles and toxins, and dissipate stagnant heat. Baijili treats itchy skin. Huangqi and Heshoushou are both nourishing tonics for the skin.

 【Functions】

Tonifies Qi and enriches Blood, dispels Wind and eliminates Dampness.

 【Indications】

Stagnation of Heart Blood, internal accumulation of Wind-Heat, widespread skin lesions (carbuncles, scabies, tinea, psoriasis), damp-toxic itching, with swelling or itching, or oozing with pus, or manifesting as red rashes. In the elderly, blood dryness and Wind-Heat leading to dry skin with rashes and itching.

 【Clinical Applications】

Pruritus, pruritic rashes (eczema), other skin diseases, pustules, and exudates.

 【Mnemonic】

Siwu (Four-Ingredient Decoction) + Three Colors + ‘Prevent Borrowing to Stir-fry’ (white, black, yellow; Fang, Jie, Cao).
