【Origin】
It is the whole plant of Pyrola incarnata Fisch, Pyrola incarnata Fisch. Ex DC. of the Pyrolaceae family. (Also known as Deer Hoof Herb)
【Characteristics】
A perennial evergreen herb with a long, horizontally growing rhizome, growing obliquely, with a flower stalk reaching a height of 20-30cm. The leaves are 4-7, nearly clustered, round to broadly elliptical, 3-5cm long and 2-4.5cm wide, with a rounded apex, rounded base, and strongly revolute margins. The underside is often grayish-blue-green. The petioles are nearly the same length as the leaves or slightly longer. The flower stalk has 1-2 bracts, a terminal raceme, large flowers, 1.5-2.0cm in diameter, 5 sepals, ligulate, with an acute apex, 5 petals, white or slightly pinkish, 10 stamens, superior ovary, fleshy pistil, curved, protruding from the corolla, 5-lobed stigma, capitate. The capsule is oblate spherical with 5 ridges, numerous seeds, small. Flowering period is May-June, fruiting period is September-October.
