【Formula Meaning】

“Shan Bu”: For cold damage with body yellowing and fever, if there is no sweating from the exterior, induce sweating with Ephedra and Adzuki Bean Decoction; if there is accumulated interior pathogenic factors, purge with Artemisia Capillaris Decoction. If there are no exterior symptoms for sweating and no interior symptoms for purging, but only yellowing and heat, it is appropriate to clear the heat with Gardenia and Phellodendron Decoction. The Licorice in this formula should be Artemisia Capillaris, as it is a transcriptional error.”

 【Actions】

Clears heat, dispels dampness, and reduces jaundice.

 【Indications】

Cold damage jaundice with fever, yellowing of body and sclera, yellow or red urine, thirst, vexation, incomplete sweating, red tongue with yellow coating, slippery and rapid pulse. “Shan Bu”: Treats cold damage with body yellowing and fever, without exterior or interior symptoms.

Acute icteric hepatitis, acute pyelonephritis.
