【Botanical Origin】
The flower of the longan plant, Euphoria longan (Lour.) Steud., belonging to the Sapindaceae family.
【Characteristics】
Can reach a height of over 10m. Young branches are covered in rusty-colored soft hairs. Bipinnately compound leaves, alternate, 15-20cm long; leaflets 2-5 pairs, usually alternate, leathery. Elliptical to ovate-lanceolate. 6-10-15cm long, apex shortly pointed or blunt, base oblique, entire or wavy, dark green. Brown when young, usually powdery green on the underside. Flowers bisexual, or unisexual and bisexual flowers coexisting; in terminal or axillary panicles; flowers small, yellowish-white, 4-5mm in diameter, covered with rusty-colored stellate fine hairs; calyx deeply 5-lobed, lobes ovate; petals 5, spoon-shaped, hairy on the inside; stamens usually 8; ovary 2-3 chambered, stigma 2-lobed.
