 [Characteristics]

(1) Raw sulfur is in irregular lumps of varying sizes. It is yellow, or with light green or light brownish-yellow hue. The surface is uneven, often with pitted texture and fine sand holes; it has luster and is translucent. It is light, brittle and easily broken. The fracture surface often shows coarse needle-like crystal shape. It has a peculiar odor and a faint taste. It melts easily when burned, emitting a blue flame and releasing irritating sulfur dioxide odor.
