【Botanical Origin】
It is the tender twigs and leaves of the Tamarisk family plant Tamarix chinensis Lour.
【Characteristics】
The dried branches and stems are cylindrical. Young branches are less than 1.5mm in diameter, with a gray-green surface and many alternate scale-like small leaves. It is brittle and easily broken. Coarse stems are about 3mm in diameter, with a reddish-brown surface. The leaves often fall off, leaving a raised leaf base. The cross-section of the coarse stem is yellowish-white, with the xylem accounting for the majority, with obvious growth rings. The bark and xylem are easily separated, and there is pith in the center. It has a faint odor and a bland taste.

It is best to choose those with green color, tender texture, and no impurities. The medicinal material is also called Xi He Liu.
