[Formula Meaning]

According to “Fang Ji Xue Tang”: Xiang Ru is pungent, warm, and aromatic, entering the Qi level of the Spleen and Lung. Its pungent warmth can promote Yang Qi to resolve exterior pathogens. Its aromatic dispersion awakens the Spleen and transforms dampness, harmonizing interior damp turbidity, making it the principal herb in the formula. Fresh Bian Dou Hua, Jin Yin Hua, and Lian Qiao are secondary herbs that dispel heat and relieve summer-heat. Hou Po is an adjuvant herb that transforms dampness and reduces fullness.

 [Functions]

Dispel summer-heat and clear heat, transform dampness and harmonize the middle Jiao.

 [Indications]

Exposure to summer-heat pathogens, with mild fever, slight aversion to cold, absence of sweating, headache, vexation, thirst, red tongue, thin white coat, and flooding pulse.

Summer colds, influenza, etc.

Xu Bu Zou Bian Yin Qiao (Xu Ru, Po, Bian, Yin, Qiao).

 [Modifications]

(1) If there is intense fever, thirst, and a red face, add Shi Gao to clear heat. (2) If there is no chest tightness or greasy tongue coating, remove Hou Po. (3) If there is abdominal distension and fullness, add Huo Xiang and Su Geng to promote the movement of Qi and resolve stagnation.

 [Pharmacology]

It has antipyretic, anti-influenza virus, antibacterial, and gastrointestinal regulatory effects.
