[Analysis of Formula]

From “Yi Fang”: This formula contains herbs that act on the hand Tai Yin and foot Yang Ming meridians. The classics state that the heavens communicate with the lungs, and if there is no phlegm, fire, or accumulated heat in the intestines and stomach, the qi then ascends normally, which is pure qi. However, due to internal burning from dry heat and external binding by wind and cold, blood and qi become stagnant, leading to nasal polyps and nasal obstruction.

(1) Magnolia Flower, Bupleurum Root, Angelica Dahurica Root: Pungent and warm, light and floating, they can guide the clear qi from the stomach upwards to the head and brain. (2) Siler Root, High Shrubby Alissum: Pungent and warm, strong and robust, they can also ascend to the crown of the head, dispel dampness, and expel wind. (3) Asarum Herb: Dispels heat, breaks up stagnation, unblocks the vital energy, and opens the nine orifices. (4) Sichuan Lovage Rhizome: Tonifies the liver, moistens dryness, disperses various stagnations, and assists the clear yang. (5) Akebia Stem: Unblocks the middle burner. (6) Tea Leaves: Cold and bitter, they descend and purge fire. (7) Licorice Root: Harmonizes the middle burner and moderates the pungent dispersal.

 [Functions]

Disperses wind-cold, expels dampness, and unblocks the nasal passages.

 [Indications]

Nasal congestion with a cold sensation in the head, continuous clear nasal discharge, nasal polyps, nasal obstruction, inability to distinguish smells, and rhinorrhea (nasal leakage). As stated in “Yi Fang”: Nasal polyps, nasal obstruction, inability to smell pleasant or foul odors.
