【Explanation of the Formula】
“Golden Chamber Jade Seal Scripture Commentary”: Blood stagnates internally, then appears externally as variegated patterns, as stated in the classics. Why is intestinal carbuncle also like this? The carbuncle forms internally because blood stagnates and does not flow. Only when it does not flow does qi also stagnate, causing the abdominal skin to swell, yet it is still soft to the touch. Although the affliction is between the intestines and stomach, it is ultimately not a mass accumulation in the abdomen. The absence of external heat and the presence of rapid pulses indicate that pus is present internally. However, the large intestine and the lung are related externally to internally. If the Fu organ is ill and moves upward to the Zang, it is indeed cause for concern. Therefore, to protect the lungs and guide the qi downwards, preventing it from ascending. Aconite root is pungent and dispersing to expel stagnation; Patrinia japonica is bitter and cold to remove toxins and drain pus. The aim is to transform pus into water and excrete it through urination, thus resolving the blood stagnation and opening up the qi. How miraculous! “Synopsis of the Golden Chamber Essentials”: Coix seed breaks up poisonous swellings and benefits the intestines and stomach, acting as the monarch; Patrinia japonica, also known as bitter vegetable, treats sudden heat and fire sores, drains pus, and breaks up blood, acting as the minister; Aconite root merely uses its pungent heat to move the stagnant qi.
