【Botanical Origin】
It is the bark or root bark of the elm tree Ulmus pumila L. of the Ulmaceae family.
【Characteristics】
The bark is greyish-brown, smooth or flaking, with cracks, and about 0.5-1cm thick. Scraping off the cork reveals a brown cortex, and the inner surface is smooth and brown. It is hard in texture and easily broken.

The thicker and harder bark is preferred.
