[Formula Rationale]
《Yi Fang》: This formula targets the Hand Tai Yin and Foot Jue Yin channels. (1) Lindera umbellata and Citrus reticulata: Specifically enter the Qi aspect and regulate Qi. (2) Cyperus rotundus and Perilla leaf: Can enter the Blood aspect and move Qi. (3) Introduced by Dried Ginger: Allows the herbs to enter the Qi aspect and also the Blood aspect. (4) The use of pungent and warm herbs is to release Liver Qi stagnation and disperse Liver Qi, ensuring smooth Qi flow and harmonizing Blood, so that the meridians function normally and there is no pain or blockage. 《Yi Lin Zuan Yao》: Cyperus rotundus regulates Liver Qi stagnation and moves Qi within Blood. Lindera umbellata is bitter and astringent, capable of strengthening Kidney Water, tonifying Ming Fire, warming the lower jiao, removing deep cold and chronic dampness from the Chong and Ren channels, breaking Liver Qi stagnation, and moving Liver Qi. Citrus reticulata assists Lindera umbellata in regulating Qi. Perilla leaf is pungent and warm, it can release external wind-cold and dryness-dampness from the exterior, soothe and disperse Liver Qi stagnation. Its purple color also allows it to enter the Blood aspect, making it very effective in regulating menses. However, its nature is overly dispersing. Here, it is used to assist Cyperus rotundus. Ginger is naturally moving, and dried ginger is good at retaining. Retention is the foundation of movement. This formula specifically tonifies the Liver and regulates the Chong and Ren channels. This is a formula for regulating menstruation that specifically enters the Qi aspect. When Liver Qi is not stagnant, menstruation will be regulated naturally.
