【Formula Principles】
“Yi Fang (Medical Prescriptions)”: A medicine for the Foot Shaoyin channel. (1) Lu Jiao Jiao (Deer Antler Glue), Lu Jiao Shuang (Deer Antler Degelatinized Powder), Tu Si Zi (Cuscuta Seed), Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root): All are blood-nourishing medicines for the Kidney meridian, greatly supplementing essence and marrow. (2) Bai Zi Ren (Platycladus Seed): Enters the heart to nourish Heart Qi, and also enters the kidney to moisten Kidney dryness, allowing the Heart and Kidney to communicate. This strengthens willpower, calms the spirit, enriches essence and marrow, strengthens bones and tendons, eliminates disease and prolongs life. It is beneficial for preventing illness and promoting longevity. “Gufang Xuanzhu (Selected Annotations of Ancient Prescriptions)”: “Qianning Ji (Record of Qianning)” states: When deer play with wandering dragons, they must grow extraordinary antlers, hence they are called ‘dragon’; deer have markings (斑 ban), hence they are called ‘ban’. Using their antlers for the formula, it is therefore named Ban Long (斑龍). When a deer lies down, its mouth faces the Weilu (an acupoint), hence it is a formula for the extraordinary meridian, the Du (Governing) meridian. For those who deplete essence through sexual activity, scattering their true Qi, with both form and spirit diminished, warming with Qi and supplementing with taste cannot restore it. Therefore, this formula uses “sentient” substances (animal products) to specifically travel along the Du meridian, and combines them with Shaoyin and Taiyang channel medicines to treat their convergence. This allows it to transport essence and marrow, fill the bone cavities, and greatly gather at the Xinhui (an acupoint on the Du meridian) to replenish the Sea of Marrow. Lu Jiao Shuang (Deer Antler Degelatinized Powder) unblocks the Qi of the Du meridian, Lu Jiao Jiao (Deer Antler Glue) warms the blood of the Du meridian. Tu Si Zi (Cuscuta Seed) and Bu Gu Zhi (Psoralea Fruit) warm the Qi of the Kidney. Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root) and Bai Zi Ren (Platycladus Seed) supplement the essence of the Kidney. Bai Zi Ren (Platycladus Seed) belongs to Wood and is moistening, while Bu Gu Zhi (Psoralea Fruit) belongs to Fire and is drying. This not only embodies the wonder of Wood generating Fire, but also, with Bai Zi Ren (Platycladus Seed) communicating with the Heart and Bu Gu Zhi (Psoralea Fruit) with the Kidney, it achieves the harmonious interaction of Water and Fire. Fu Ling (Poria), with its ascending nature but descending action, is used to guide other herbs to the Shaoyin and Taiyang channels, reaching the Du meridian, ascending to the Sea of Marrow, thus achieving the function of transportation.
