【Rationale】

From the “Compendium of Herbal Medicine”: Lodestone specifically enters the Kidney channel, gathering the scattered spirit and drawing the Qi of the Lung Metal down to be stored in the Kidney Water due to its magnetic properties. Cinnabar, being Yang in nature but Yin in property, can absorb the floating Fire and calm the spirit. Just as water reflects and fire illuminates, water and fire are in harmony, preventing dissipation. The eyes receive the essence of the Zang-Fu organs and are nourished by grains. Massa Fermentata Medicinalis can digest the five grains, thus facilitating the formation of essence. Indeed, when the vital fluid disperses, it can become uncontained. It relies on heavy, settling substances to rapidly gather and attract it, thus serving as an emergency remedy. It also treats symptoms like tinnitus and deafness by using its heavy, settling function to treat the upward surging of deficiency Yang to the ears.

(1) If there is Kidney Yin deficiency with symptoms such as sore back and seminal emission, it should be taken with Liu Wei Di Huang Wan to nourish the Liver and Kidney.
(2) If epilepsy is accompanied by excessive phlegm, add Ban Xia and Dan Xing to resolve phlegm.
