【Formula Actions】

Analysis of the Formula: In this formula, Dried ginger warms the lungs and disperses cold to resolve dampness, and warms and transports spleen yang to transform dampness. Asarum warms the lungs and resolves phlegm-dampness. Apricot kernel disperses and descends lung qi, allowing qi to move and thus water to move. Poria cocos strengthens the spleen and promotes urination to eliminate dampness. Pinellia ternata dries dampness and transforms phlegm. Schisandra berry is added to astringe lung qi and stop cough. It works synergistically with Asarum, one dispersing and the other astringing, ensuring that dispersion does not harm vital qi and astringing does not retain pathogens. Licorice root harmonizes the actions of the other herbs. The herbs in combination disperse and astringe, open and close, addressing both the root cause and symptoms.
