It is the fruit of the olive tree Canarium album (Lour.) Raeusch., belonging to the Burseraceae family.

It is spindle-shaped, with blunt round ends or gradually sharp ends, and can reach 3-4cm in length and about 1.5-2cm in thickness. The outer surface is brownish-brown or purplish-brown, wrinkled, with numerous uneven wrinkles. The pulp is relatively thin, brownish-brown or grey, with a tough texture and can be separated from the pit. The inner pit is spindle-shaped, brownish-brown, with 6 ridges; it is hard and not easily broken. A cross-section of the pit reveals 3 holes, each containing a slender spindle-shaped seed. It has a sweet taste, with less of a sour and astringent taste.
