The dried flower buds are spherical, 4-8mm in diameter, and often have a small stalk at the base. Bracts in 3-4 layers, brown and scaly. Inside the bracts are 5 sepals, light yellowish-brown, slightly greenish, ovate, imbricate, and fused with the receptacle at the base. Petals 5 or more, white or yellowish-white, tightly embracing. The petals contain many yellow filamentous stamens. There is a single pistil in the center, with an ovoid ovary and a slender style. Light in texture. Fragrant odor, taste is light and astringent.
