[Formula Meaning]

“Yi Fang”: This is a formula for the Foot Tai Yin and Yang Ming channels. (1) Gardenia: Clears the fire of the heart and lungs, causing it to descend and be eliminated through urination. (2) Agastache rugosa: Regulates the qi of the spleen and lungs, removes upper jiao stagnation heat, and dispels evil and harmonizes the middle jiao. (3) Gypsum Fibrosum: Greatly cold, purges heat, and can also release the muscles. (4) Licorice: Sweet and neutral, harmonizes the middle jiao, and can also purge fire. (5) Heavy use of Saposhnikovia root: Taken for its ability to raise yang, it can bring out the hidden fire in the spleen and also purge the liver from within the earth.

 [Contraindications]

(1) Contraindicated for those with yin deficiency heat in the stomach. (2) Contraindicated for children with congenital deficiency, incomplete brain development, and pale tongue with tongue-flicking.

 [Modifications]

(1) If heat in the heart channel is excessive, add Akebia Stem and Coptis Chinensis to clear the heart and guide heat. (2) If accompanied by damp-heat, add Talc, Akebia Stem, and Plantago Seed to clear heat and facilitate dampness. (3) If constipated, add Rhubarb to clear heat and promote bowel movements. (4) For mouth sores, externally apply Bing Peng San. (5) If accompanied by diabetes, add Trichosanthes Root and Kudzu Root to lower blood sugar. (6) If accompanied by anemia, remove Gypsum Fibrosum and add Angelica Sinensis, White Peony Root, and Goji Berry to nourish blood.
