【Formula Analysis】
“Zhong Yi Fang Ji Xue Jiang Yi”: The formula contains Fang Feng and Nan Xing, which have the functions of dispelling wind and transforming phlegm; supplemented by Bai Fu Zi to dispel wind from the head and face, and stop spasms and convulsions; Qiang Huo disperses wind from the Tai Yang channel; Bai Zhi disperses wind from the Yang Ming channel; Tian Ma treats wind from the Jue Yin channel. This greatly enhances the power to dispel wind, so that wind is dispersed and spasms stop, and the disease naturally heals. “Fang Ji Xue Tang”: Bai Fu Zi and Tian Nan Xing dispel wind, transform phlegm, relieve spasms, and stop pain, serving as the main herbs in the formula. Qiang Huo, Fang Feng, and Bai Zhi are used to scatter external wind and drive out pathogens, serving as secondary herbs. Tian Ma is used to extinguish wind and relieve spasms, serving as an assistant herb. Alcohol and young man’s urine are used to activate blood and unblock channels.
【Functions】
Dispel wind, transform phlegm, stop spasms and convulsions.
【Indications】
Tetanus. Symptoms include trismus, tightly pursed lips, body rigidity, opisthotonos, and a taut pulse.
【Applications】
Tetanus, traumatic injuries, facial nerve palsy, pertussis, stubborn headaches after trauma, traumatic tenosynovitis, etc.
【Contraindications】
(1) Bai Fu Zi and Nan Xing are used raw and are toxic; they should not be taken in excess. (2) Pregnant women should not take this medicine.
【Mnemonic】
Fang Zhi Tian Tian Qiang Bai Ren (Prevent Zhi Tian Tian Qiang Bai people).
【Modifications】
(1) If spasms are severe, leading to opisthotonos and body rigidity, add Zhi Jing San and Di Long to stop spasms and unblock collaterals. (2) If wind evil is predominant, add Chan Tui and Jing Jie to enhance the effect of dispelling wind. (3) Remove Qiang Huo, Bai Zhi, Fang Feng, and Bai Fu Zi from this formula, and add Chan Tui, Quan Xie, and Jiang Can, and it becomes Wu Hu Zhui Feng San, which treats tetanus with trismus, hand and foot spasms, and opisthotonos. This formula primarily aims to dispel wind and stop spasms.

Has anticonvulsant, analgesic, sedative, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects.
