【Formula Explanation】
《Medical Formula》: This is a medicine for Hand and Foot Taiyang. (1) Little Thistle, Nelumbinis Nodus Rhizomatis: Clear heat and dispel blood stasis. (2) Raw Rehmannia: Cools the blood. (3) Pollen Typhae: Stops bleeding. (4) Akebiae Caulis: Descends fire from the heart and lungs to the small intestine. (5) Gardenia: Disperses stagnant fire in the San Jiao, exiting through urination. (6) Bamboo Leaves: Cools the heart and clears the lungs. (7) Talc: Drains heat and lubricates the orifices. (8) Angelica Sinensis: Nourishes Yin, and guides the other herbs to the affected meridian. (9) Licorice: Benefits Yang, and harmonizes the middle Jiao and regulates Qi. 《Cheng Fang Bian Du》: Gardenia, Akebiae Caulis, and Bamboo Leaves clear heart fire and drive it downward to the small intestine, which is to “clear the source”; Talc unblocks the orifices, separating and draining damp-heat from the bladder, which is to “dredge the flow”; however, the stagnant blood can never return to its origin, and the disease cannot be cured unless the blood stasis is removed, so Little Thistle and Nelumbinis Nodus Rhizomatis clear heat and dispel blood stasis; however, fearing that removing the blood stasis will further damage new blood, stir-fried black Pollen Typhae is used to stop the bleeding and Raw Rehmannia is used to nourish the blood; Angelica Sinensis can remove stagnant blood and generate new blood, guiding all the blood back to their respective meridians; Licorice is used to moderate the urgency of the formula and purge the fire.
