<Tonifying Spleen and Middle Jiao>: Licorice, Red Peony Root, Atractylodes macrocephala

<Dispelling Exterior with Acrid-Cool Herbs>: Bupleurum

<Clearing Heat and Drying Dampness>: Scutellaria baicalensis

<Tonifying Qi>: Ginseng

<Warming Interior>: Cinnamomi ramulus

<Tonifying Spleen and Promoting Urination>: Poria cocos

<Transforming Phlegm>: Pinellia ternata

<Promoting Urination and Resolving Dampness>: Polyporus umbellatus, Alisma orientale

【Actions】

Removes cold and clears heat, promotes urination and transforms phlegm.

 【Indications】

Cold-damage fever, warm-pestilence diseases, heatstroke, malaria, dysentery, etc., residual heat from cold-damage, pathogen in the half-exterior and half-interior, presenting with fever, alternating chills and fever, chest and hypochondriac fullness, nausea and thirst, scanty urination, white tongue coating, or drinking water leading to vomiting and diarrhea, inability to sleep, and thirst with polyuria.

 【Syndromes】

Common cold, heatstroke, acute gastroenteritis, pyelonephritis, nephritis, edema, pediatric diarrhea, liver and gallbladder diseases.

 【Mnemonic】

Si Jun Zi Tang + formula name + Today I thank you (Huang Qin, Ze Xie, Gui Xin, Ban Xia).

 【Modifications】

If thirst is severe, remove Atractylodes macrocephala and Pinellia ternata, and add 1 qian each of Kudzu root and Peony root.
