【Formula Explanation】
《Medical Formulas》: This is a formula for the Hand Taiyin, Shaoyin, Foot Shaoyang, and Yangming meridians. (1) Huangqin and Huanglian: bitter and cold, clear heat from the Heart and Lung meridians, acting as chief ingredients. (2) Scrophularia root (Xuanshen): bitter and cold; Red tangerine peel (Juhong): bitter and pungent; Licorice root (Gancao): sweet and cold, purge fire and tonify qi, acting as deputy ingredients. (3) Forsythia fruit (Lianqiao), Peppermint (Bohe), Burdock fruit (Shuzhan, referring to Niubangzi): pungent, bitter, and neutral; Isatis root (Lan-gen, referring to Banlangen): sweet and cold; Puffball (Mabo), Stiff Silkworm (Jiangcan): bitter and neutral, disperse swelling, detoxify, and relieve asthma, acting as assistant ingredients. (4) Black cohosh rhizome (Shengma), Bupleurum root (Chaihu): bitter and neutral, guide the Yang Qi of the Shaoyang and Yangming meridians to extend. (5) Platycodon root (Jiegeng): pungent and warm, acts as a guiding boat, preventing downward movement, serving as a carrier.
【Functions】
Dispel wind and pathogenic factors, clear heat and detoxify.
【Indications】
Great Head Epidemic (Da Tou Wen Zheng) due to wind-heat epidemic toxin attacking upwards, manifesting as aversion to cold, fever, red and swollen head and face with throbbing pain, inability to open eyes, sore throat, dry tongue and thirst, red tongue, white and yellowish coating, forceful, floating and rapid pulse. 《Medical Formulas》: Great Head Epidemic, initially experiencing aversion to cold and heaviness of the body, then progressing to severe swelling of the head and face, inability to open eyes, dyspnea, sore throat, thirst, and dry tongue.
【Applicable Conditions】
Epidemic mumps, acute tonsillitis, acute pharyngitis, respiratory tract infection, erysipelas, lymphadenitis.
【Contraindications】
(1)Clinical application should be adjusted according to the specific syndrome. Avoid spicy, irritating, and greasy foods during use. (2)Use with caution in patients with Yin deficiency.

Don’t go gambling (Puji Xiaodu) — Chen Bo urges cattle and horses to diligently practice seesaw, immediately rising to prosperity (representing: Chenpi, Bohe, Gancao, Niubangzi, Mabo, Huangqin, Lianqiao, Banlangen, Xuanshen, Jiegeng, Jiangcan, Shengma, Chaihu).
