 【Botanical Origin】

It is the immature, tender young fruit or persistent calyx of Cinnamomum cassia Presl, of the Lauraceae family.

 【Characteristics】

This product is similar in shape to Ding Xiang (Clove). The persistent calyx is blackish-brown, ring-shaped, about 5 mm in diameter, with a narrow, tapering base extending into a stalk. The fruit is oblate, light brown, located inside the persistent calyx, with the top part exposed, slightly glossy, and a circular dot-like stigma remnant visible in the center. It is hard in texture, and has the same aroma as Rou Gui (Cinnamon). It can be used as a substitute for male Ding Xiang (Clove) in five-spice powder. It is spicy and sweet, has a cinnamon aroma, and is not easily moldy.
