【Formula’s Rationale】

“Study of Medical Formulas”: Capillaris is a remarkably effective herb for jaundice, hence it is widely used in various formulas; Polyporus, Alisma, Poria, and Atractylodes Macrocephala are bland in taste, thus they can promote urination; the addition of Cinnamon Bark, with its pungent and hot nature, guides other herbs directly to the site where heat pathogen accumulates. “Discussions on Formulas by Famous Doctors Past and Present”: Luo Dongyi said, to treat jaundice due to alcohol accumulation, it is because spleen deficiency leads to dampness, and damp-heat invading the spleen causes the yellow color to manifest. Capillaris specifically manages damp-heat and is essential for those with jaundice; assisted by Wuling (San), it strengthens the Middle Jiao and promotes bladder function; Cinnamon acts as a guide, directly reaching the site of heat, ensuring successful treatment.

 【Functions】

Clears heat and dispels dampness, promotes diuresis and resolves jaundice.

 【Indications】

Damp-heat jaundice, dampness more severe than heat, jaundice due to Shanghan (cold damage) or latent summer-heat, dysuria, restlessness and thirst, jaundice disease. “Han Dian” (Classic): This is Wuling San with the addition of Capillaris, used for Wuling San patterns presenting with liver dysfunction or jaundice. <a href='https://whatsintcm.com/dt_articles/Yinchenhao Tang/’>Yinchenhao Tang. It targets symptoms such as thirst, reduced urination, constipation, and abdominal distension. However, the pattern for this formula (Yinchen Wuling San) presents with thirst and reduced urination, but no constipation. This formula can be used for hepatitis, nephritis, renal sclerosis, ascites, etc. It can also be used in combination with <a href='https://whatsintcm.com/dt_articles/小Chaihu Tang/’>Xiao Chaihu Tang or <a href='https://whatsintcm.com/dt_articles/大Chaihu Tang/’>Da Chaihu Tang.
