According to “Annotations of Medical Forest Revision of Errors”: The formula uses Gentiana macrophylla and Notopterygium root to dispel wind and remove dampness; Peach kernel, Safflower, Angelica sinensis, and Sichuan lovage rhizome to invigorate blood and dispel stasis; Myrrh, Trogopterus dung, and Cyperus rotundus to move qi and blood, stop pain; Achyranthes bidentata and Earthworm to dredge the meridians and facilitate the joints; and Licorice root to harmonize the other herbs.

 【Functions】

Invigorates blood and moves qi, dispels stasis and unblocks collaterals, benefits bi syndrome and stops pain, dispels wind and removes dampness.

 【Indications】

Bi syndrome due to obstruction of qi and blood in the meridians, bi syndrome with blood stasis; shoulder pain, arm pain, lower back pain, leg pain, or generalized body pain that is chronic and unhealed; purplish-dark tongue or ecchymoses on the tongue, and a choppy or taut pulse. Recurrent and unhealed pain in joints and muscles throughout the body, aggravated by pressure, with a subsequent blue-purple tongue or ecchymoses on the tongue.

 【Clinical Applications】

Sciatica, low back and leg pain, lumbar sprain, rheumatoid arthritis, post-brain injury syndrome, facial paralysis, trigeminal neuralgia, etc.

 【Contraindications】

Contraindicated or to be used with caution in pregnant women and those with a tendency to bleed.

 【Mnemonic】

Peach and Red combine the Four Substances, Myrrh, Earthworm, and Shao add Huoxiang and Cao. (Trogopterus, Gentiana, Achyranthes, Earthworm, Cyperus, Licorice, Notopterygium).

 【Modifications】

If there is mild fever, add Atractylodes lancea and Phellodendron chinense; if weak, increase Astragalus propinquus by 1-2 liang.
