[Functions]
Tonifies the Lung and stops cough.
[Indications]
Treats chronic cough, wheezing, thick yellow phlegm, or cough with pus or blood, vexation and heat in the chest, emaciation, or facial edema, weak and floating pulse, gradually developing into flaccid lung atrophy and voice loss.
[Mnemonics]
(Tonifies Qi, Yang, Spleen): Renshen, Ge-jie, Gancao, Fuling → “Borrowing people requires sincerity and willingness to obey.” (Transforms Phlegm, Stops Cough and Relieves Asthma): Sangbaipi, Xingren, Beimu → “Still fortunate to have the two mothers.”
[Modifications]
(1) If there is no heat, remove Sangbaipi and Zhimu. (2) If there is Yin deficiency, add Maimendong to nourish Yin and moisten the Lung. (3) If coughing up pus or blood, or phlegm with blood, add Baimaogen, charred Diyu, and charred cypress leaf to clear heat, cool blood, and stop bleeding.
