【Formula Analysis】
“Medical Prescriptions”: This formula is for the Lesser Yin of the Hand and Greater Yin of the Foot. When the Heart and Spleen are deficient and attacked by wind evil, phlegm and fire obstruct the meridians, leading to a stiff tongue and difficulty speaking. (1) Ginseng, Poria cocos, Licorice: Tonify the Heart, benefit the Spleen, and drain fire. (2) Aged Orange Peel, Arisaema, Pinellia ternata: Regulate Qi, dry dampness, and dispel phlegm. (3) Calamus: Opens the orifices and communicates with the Heart. (4) Aurantium: Breaks up phlegm and benefits the diaphragm. (5) Bambusa textilis: Clears dryness and opens depression. When phlegm dissipates and fire descends, the meridians are clear and the tongue softens.
【Function】
Tonify Qi and dispel phlegm, transform turbidity and open the orifices.
【Indications】
Stroke with phlegm misting the Heart orifices, leading to a stiff tongue and inability to speak. “Medical Prescriptions”: Treats stroke with phlegm misting the Heart orifices, causing a stiff tongue and inability to speak.
【Mnemonic】
Erchen Decoction + <Tonifying Qi, Regulating Qi, Transforming Phlegm, Opening Orifices>: Ren Zhi Ru Xing Chang → Ren Ren Zhi Xin Ri Wang Ru Xing Chang (Everyone only hopes to prosper like stars).
【Modifications】
(1) If phlegm depression transforms into heat, invading the Heart and Pericardium, manifesting as high fever, restlessness, delirium, and a red tongue, add Coptis chinensis and Calculus Bovis to clear heat and transform phlegm. (2) If there is internal blood stasis, manifesting as a dark purple tongue, add Persica kernel, Moutan cortex, and Salvia miltiorrhiza to invigorate blood, disperse stasis, and unblock collaterals.
