“Essentials from the Golden Chamber, Annotated”: Cinnamon Twig, Peach Kernel, Tree Peony Bark, and Peony can remove blood stasis; Poria also benefits blood in the lumbar and umbilical region, which is to break up blood. However, some disperse, some soothe, some astringe, and some permeate. Stasis is dispersed by the pungent nature of Cinnamon Twig; the liver stores blood, and when blood is congested, the liver is tense, so it is soothed by the sweet nature of Peach Kernel and Tree Peony Bark; when the yin energy is agitated, it is astringed by the sour nature of Peony; once the blood stasis is broken, it is assisted by the bland and osmotic properties of Poria and others to promote its elimination. “Synopsis of the Golden Chamber, Formula Meanings”: This formula is a gentle agent for dissolving blood stasis and reducing masses.
