【Formula Explanation】n

《Medical Formulas》: This is a Foot Shao Yin formula. All four ingredients are medicines for nourishing yin and tonifying the kidneys. Tonifying water is precisely for subduing fire, which is the so-called “strengthening the water to control the sunlight.” Adding spinal cord is to utilize its ability to connect to the kidney’s mingmen fire, using bone to enter bone, and marrow to replenish marrow. 《Supplements and Deletions》: Using the bitterness of Huang Bai (Phellodendron Bark) to solidify the kidneys, it can then control the fire of the Dragon; followed by the clearing nature of Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome) to cool the lungs, it can then completely break the metal of injury. If the root is not considered, even if the disease goes away, there is still a fear of recurrence, so Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root) and Gui Ban (Tortoise Shell) are used to greatly supplement the yin, which is called cultivating the root and clearing the source. Although there are these symptoms, if there is little appetite and loose stools, it indicates a weak stomach and should not be used lightly.

【Indications】n

Liver and Kidney Yin Deficiency with Yin Deficiency Fire Rising, causing symptoms such as tidal fever due to steaming bone, night sweats, coughing with blood, irritability and hunger, hot and painful feet and knees, tinnitus, seminal emission, red tongue with little coating, and a forceful, rapid pulse at the Chi position. 《Medical Formulas》: Water deficiency with fire blazing, tinnitus, deafness, rebellious Qi, deficiency heat, strong kidney pulse that cannot tolerate drastic tonification. 《Supplements and Deletions》: Yin deficiency with fire excess, lung wilt with hemoptysis, bone steaming with night sweats, and symptoms of consumptive disease.

【Suitable for】n

Pulmonary tuberculosis with hemoptysis, menopausal syndrome, diabetes, pyelonephritis, hematuria, thromboangiitis obliterans, palpitations, sudden blindness in children, etc.

【Contraindications】n

(1) Avoid spicy foods. (2) Use with caution in those with Spleen and Stomach weakness, poor appetite, and loose stools.

【Modifications】n

(2) If Yin deficiency with night sweats, add Di Gu Pi (Lycium Root Bark), Mu Li (Oyster Shell), and Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra Fruit) to reduce heat and eliminate steaming. (3) If hemoptysis or vomiting blood, add Xian He Cao (Agrimony), Han Lian Cao (Eclipta), and Bai Mao Gen (Imperata Rhizome) to cool the blood and stop bleeding. (4) If seminal emission, add Jin Ying Zi (Rosa laevigata Fruit), Qian Shi (Euryale Seed), and Sang Piao Xiao (Mantis Egg Case) to secure essence and stop emission. (5) Adding Sheng Di (Raw Rehmannia), Shi Gao (Gypsum), Niu Xi (Achyranthes Root), Xiao Ji (Japanese Thistle), Sheng Bai Mao Gen (Imperata Rhizome), Sheng Ce Bai Ye (Arborvitae Leaf), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root) carbon (or Hei Shan Zhi) to this formula treats blood diseases, hemophilia, liver diseases, and splenomegaly with symptoms such as nosebleeds, vomiting blood, and incessant bleeding from the teeth. (6) Adding Sheng Di (Raw Rehmannia), Shi Gao (Gypsum), Xiao Ji (Japanese Thistle), Bai Mao Gen (Imperata Rhizome), Sang Ji Sheng (Taxillus Branch), Xu Duan (Dipsacus Root) carbon, E Jiao (Donkey-hide gelatin) pearls, Xian He Cao (Agrimony), Fu Ling (Poria), Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome), and fried Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) to this formula treats uterine bleeding, hematuria, and bloody lin syndrome.
