【Formula Analysis】
“Compound Formula”: The formula uses Jiegeng to disperse lung qi, expel phlegm, and clear carbuncles. When used with Gancao, it forms the <a href='https://whatsintcm.com/dt_articles/桔梗湯/’>Jiegeng Tang in “Jingui Yaolue”, which has the functions of expelling phlegm, clearing heat, and detoxifying. It also uses Gualou, Beimu, Sangbaipi, and Xingren to clear the lungs, transform phlegm, facilitate qi, broaden the chest, dissipate nodules, resolve carbuncles, and moisten the intestines to promote bowel movements. Huangqi tonifies qi and lifts yang, promotes pus discharge, and aids muscle regeneration. Danggui nourishes and invigorates blood, reduces swelling, relieves pain, promotes pus discharge, and aids muscle regeneration. Baihe moistens the lungs and stops cough. Zhike moves qi and resolves phlegm. Yiyiren and Fangji clear heat, promote pus discharge, promote urination, and reduce swelling. All herbs work together to open the lung qi, transform phlegm, stop cough, tonify qi and blood, promote pus discharge, resolve carbuncles, promote pus discharge, and aid muscle regeneration.

【Indications】
Sore throat in Shaoyin disease, cough with purulent sputum, cough due to wind-heat affecting the heart, sensation of a lump in the throat, or even severe throat swelling and obstruction. Wind-evil and heat-toxin attacking the Shaoyin channel and ascending to the throat causing throat pain and obstruction; wind-heat accumulating in the lungs leading to lung carbuncle, cough, chest fullness, chills, dry throat without thirst, occasional expectoration of foul-smelling sputum, and later expectoration of pus like rice porridge.
