[Formula Meaning]

According to “Yi Lue Liu Shu”: Due to deficiency of Qi and phlegm-heat, severe heat generates wind, leading to obstruction of orifices, coma, and inability to speak. Calculus bovis clears the heart and resolves phlegm, Poria profundis calms the spirit and dispels dampness, Realgar settles phlegm and dries dampness, Atractylodes macrocephala strengthens the middle and dries dampness, Rhinoceros horn and Antelope horn clear the upward-moving phlegm-fire, Ginseng and Angelica sinensis replenish the depleted Qi and blood, Musk opens the orifices, Borneol opens the passages, Licorice root moderates the middle and purges fire, with a small addition of Cinnamon to guide the cold used for heat. It is made into honey pills which are sweet and moist, with a gold coating to cool the heat, and wax to preserve its properties. It is dissolved in boiling water to tonify the middle, and taken with ginger decoction to resolve phlegm. The aim is to regulate Qi and blood so that the pulse naturally moderates, phlegm-fire descends so that wind naturally extinguishes, and the spirit naturally becomes clear. The original formula had a redundant number of ingredients, hence the reduction.

 [Indications]

Deficiency of Heart Qi, restless spirit, fright and vexation, confusion of mind, unclear speech, dizziness and vertigo, heat accumulation in the chest, excessive phlegm, epilepsy and infantile convulsion, flaccidity and paralysis of the limbs, hesitant speech, forgetfulness, intermittent confusion, dizziness and blurred vision, vexation and oppression in the chest, phlegm accumulation, clouded spirit.
