【Formula Analysis】
《Medical Formula》: Medicine for the Foot Shao Yin and Jue Yin meridians. (1)He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum): Astringes essence and consolidates Qi, tonifies the liver and strengthens the kidneys, acting as the chief ingredient. (2)Fu Ling (Poria): Harmonizes the heart and kidneys while draining spleen dampness. (3)Niu Xi (Achyranthes bidentata): Strengthens tendons and bones, benefiting the lower Jiao. (4)Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis): Acrid and warm, nourishing the blood. (5) Gou Qi Zi (Lycium barbarum): Sweet and cool, supplementing water. (6)Tu Si Zi (Cuscuta chinensis): Benefits the three Yin meridians and strengthens Wei Qi. (7)Bu Gu Zhi (Psoralea corylifolia): Assists the Ming Fire and warms the Dantian. (8) These are all medicines for consolidating the root. By ensuring the Rong and Wei Qi are harmonized and water and fire interact, Qi and blood will be in great harmony, and various diseases will naturally subside. Even with additions and subtractions, they should be based on the original formula and adjusted according to the disease. Many people today add He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum) to Di Huang (Rehmannia glutinosa) pills, combining the two formulas into one. This is having two chief ingredients for one formula. Which should be followed? It loses the original intention of the formula.
